Did you know a change in your blood sugar can be observed in your gums, or ulcerations in the mouth could be one of the first sings of Chron’s Disease? Not only is it important to visit your gynecologist for a yearly exam; it is also important to see your dentist at least once a year. Often times our dental care takes a back seat to other aspects of our life, however it is extremely important to stay on top of your oral health. Seeing your dentist for a full dental exam including x-rays yearly will help to keep you and your mouth healthy! Many changes in your mouth and body can happen in a single year, and with an early diagnosis, treatment can be less invasive and less expensive.
At your yearly exam your dentist will check for tooth decay (cavities), bone loss in your mouth (periodontal disease), as well as a thorough oral exam and cancer screening. At this exam tell your dentist of any changes you have seen including: bleeding gums, pain, sensitivity, or any other observations. Your mouth can be the first sign of changes in other parts of your body.
